New Designers Top Picks - Daniel Lau Design
Our first pick is a budding Designer whose fresh approach and impressive design skills really caught our attention here at Nova.
Daniel is a 23 year old furniture and product designer who has recently graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a First Class degree in BA (Hons) Furniture & Product Design. In Daniels final year at university he designed Kai for his final major project.
Kai – a stacking, metal, wire-frame chair. Designed for the contract and domestic markets, Kai is constructed from steel wire using different manufacturing methods located in Britain. Daniel worked with local craftsman and manufacturers, adopting a “Made in Britain” approach to the project.
Kai can be powder coated in any colour to suit individual project requirements and enables it to be made adaptable to a number of indoor and outdoor environments.
Kai was designed in collaboration with ‘And Then Design’ who has now taken the design on board and it can now be bought online through their website.
Daniel says - “Having a product out in the market whilst I was still at University was a definite highlight of my time at University. It also provided me with the opportunity to exhibit at Clerkenwell Design Week which was a huge privilege for any young designer. Kai was also selected to be exhibited at New Designers too, which was another fantastic experience that has led to many exciting opportunities that I can’t quite reveal just yet. Fingers crossed they come to fruition and hopefully you’ll be seeing more of me in the future!”
